Eastern Star of Ohio at its Best in South Carolina
What a fun time we had at the 51st Triennium in Myrtle Beach especially at the South Carolina/Ohio Party. SC Chairman PGM Nancy Jones welcomed the full room as did Ohio Chairman PGM Jean Watters who then started the evening with an interesting Ohio city and place name poem. A must hear. The SC entertainment set the evening off with some rousing songs by five ladies who were ready to entertain and did so in SC fashion. PGM Nancy Jones finished the section with some humor and stories of laughter.
Ohio then came alive with the “Goffers” singing their traditional “Moments to Remember” with a newcomer, John Young. Regulars Pam Moore, Diane Merkle, John Youngblood, Ron Hardesty and Ray Dennis made up the group. It melted the hearts of all and caused some to dance. This was followed by John Young, standup act and introducing Ron Hardesty with PGP Bill Taylor in “Lon’s Barbershop” routine. This created some sore ribs from laughter, a real gut buster. A must see on FB.
Next came the Ohio “Oak Ridge Boys” singing “Bobbi Sue” with newcomers Dennis Lawson and Steve Moore along with originals Ray Dennis and John Youngblood. They concluded with “Elvira” to a rousing crowd.
John Youngblood followed with a routine that also left the ribs sore more so from the wild, funny stories. Bonnie hides her face for some. Then a surprise visit by a resident of Myrtle Beach, Vanna White, welcoming all and posing with her bodyguard Deputy Sheriff in uniform. Oh yes, Vanna was Dennis Lawson, beautifully dressed with blond hair and a nice body knit dress, WOW what a look (well maybe) protected by bodyguard, Kelly Sparks. Autographs were available at midnight on the beach.
What a fantastic time for those who saw great Ohio talent and knew the pre-recordings did a lot for the group singers with great lip movement. Segments of the program are available on FB courtesy of Lydalyn Pritchard.
We very much missed our regular partners who were not able to travel and “sing”with us, PGP Barry Metzger, PGP Frank Clifton and of course Fred Wheeler. It was my pleasure to draft singers, encourage Denny/Vanna and coordinate the troupe.
